The oldest online program in Georgia
Gwinnett County Online Campus is the oldest online program in Georgia, serving students since 1999. It has grown from serving 122 students in summer school or 7th period in 2000 to over 5000 segments in 2015. The program has expanded to include 175 secondary courses, middle grades courses, upper elementary courses, math support classes, online credit recovery, special entity support, and curriculum resources and support.
In 2005, students were provided the option to take courses as a part of their regular school day. Each year the number of students taking courses online has increased. Gwinnett Online Campus has been one of the largest district level supplemental online programs in the United States for a number of years.
In March of 2010, the Gwinnett County Board of Education voted to approve Gwinnett Online Campus as a full-time charter school. In April of 2011, the State Board of Education approved the GOC Charter. Gwinnett Online Campus Charter School opened as a full-time option for high school students in the fall of 2011. The next year, middle grades were added to the school. In the fall of 2013, elementary students in grades four and five enrolled in Gwinnett Online Campus full-time. GOC is committed to build upon a high level of success as a world-class supplemental program to become the best diploma-granting, online school in the nation.
